Baton Rouge General Physicians Group (BRGP) will provide a free diabetes screening for the community at the C.B. Pennington Jr. YMCA, 15550 Old Hammond Hwy, today, Dec. 3.

BRGP’s clinical team will use a combination of screening assessments, including body mass index (BMI) and blood pressure checks, glucose testing, and an A1C blood test (if recommended). The diabetes screenings are open to anyone aged 18 and older. The screening event will also include nutritional consults and information on the hospital’s Diabetes Education Program.

The event will be held from 8-10 a.m.

Woman’s has been recognized by Press Ganey as one of the nation’s leaders in providing exceptional patient experience for both inpatient care and outpatient surgery. This is the seventh straight year that Woman’s has earned the Guardian of Excellence Award for being in the top five percent in the country in outstanding inpatient experience and the first time for ambulatory (outpatient) surgery.

Baton Rouge General announced the opening of Baton Rouge Recovery Health, a residential center which provides inpatient treatment for the adult male population struggling with substance use disorder. Located at 933 North Foster Dr., the 16-bed residential treatment center is newly renovated and located on beautiful, serene grounds lined with oak trees. It provides comprehensive 28-day treatment in a safe, comfortable, home-like environment.

The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine’s Wildlife Hospital recently released a bald eagle on the levee near the veterinary school.

The adult, male bald eagle was found in Livingston Parish and presented to Leslie Lattimore with Wings of Hope Wildlife Sanctuary. Lattimore brought the eagle to LSU Vet Med on Nov. 3. He had been hit by a car and had a significant concussion. The eagle received anti-inflammatories, fluids, and supportive care and is doing well.

Three Woman’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nurses were recognized by the March of Dimes at its recent Signature Chefs Gala with the Excellence in NICU Nursing Award. Christina Bell, BSN, RN, Darla Mathews, MSN, RNC-NIC, and Stephanie Powers, BSN, RNC-NIC, were selected among the top five honorees for the state, with Bell winning the top honor for Louisiana.
