Baton Rouge General (BRG) has opened a high-risk breast clinic at its Mid City campus, providing specialized care to women at risk for developing breast disease and who are underinsured or uninsured.

The clinic is led by Everett Bonner, MD, surgical breast oncologist. Bonner holds a fellowship in surgical breast oncology from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He graduated from LSU School of Medicine and completed a surgery residency at Mercer University School of Medicine in Savannah, Ga.

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center’s Prevention on the Go program recently celebrated a significant milestone of 100,000 cancer screenings. This achievement, which occurred during the Cancer Center 50th anniversary year, was recognized at a recent free breast and colorectal cancer screening at LSU Mid-City clinic.

Our Lady of the Lake has opened an additional COVID-19 testing site at its Livingston campus, located at 5000 O’Donovan Boulevard in Walker. The site is open Monday through Friday from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 2 p.m.-8 p.m.

No doctor’s orders are required for testing at this site. The CDC recommends PCR testing for those who have COVID-19 symptoms or who have been exposed to someone with COVID-19. Patients are asked to wear a mask, to stay in their cars with the windows rolled up, and to have identification information ready.

Gov. John Bel Edwards and the Louisiana Department of Health announced Shot For 100, a new vaccine incentive program that will give $100 to the first 75,000 college students who get their COVID-19 vaccine at participating institutions of higher education.

18-to-29-year-olds are one of the two least vaccinated age groups in Louisiana, and are reporting the most cases statewide.
