People impacted by Hurricane Ida and who are uninsured can get their prescriptions free of charge. The Emergency Prescription Assistance Program (EPAP) is part of the federal government’s disaster response approach. Run by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, EPAP is designed to assist people without health insurance in a federally-identified disaster area replace prescription drugs, vaccinations, medical supplies, and other equipment that they need.

For those patients with insurance, the pharmacies will bill the person’s insurance provider.

Louisiana is experiencing multiple crises that may be leaving residents with feelings of grief, fear, anxiety, depression, or anger. From the ongoing recovery from Hurricane Laura, to COVID-19, to Hurricane Ida, emotions are strong and it may be helpful to talk to someone.

The Office of Behavioral Health is providing this list of resources for anyone experiencing a crisis. Trained and compassionate individuals are available to support Louisianans with a listening ear, provide information, and connect to confidential mental health and substance abuse services.

Patrick Gillies has joined the Louisiana Department of Health as the new Medicaid executive director.

Gillies has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare administration on both the state and federal levels. He most recently worked as an independent consultant assisting organizations with operations including healthcare systems operations, Medicare, and Medicaid.

The NeuroMedical Center announced that Ashok Reddy Polu, MD, has joined the Neurology Department as its second full-time neurohospitalist. Along with advanced training in stroke and neurological conditions, Polu brings a specialized understanding of caring for patients in the hospital setting. Polu will officially begin seeing patients at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge alongside Gary J. Walker, MD, in September 2021.
