Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center announced that Jonas Fontenot, PhD, MBA, will begin serving as President and chief executive officer in January 2023. Fontenot currently serves as chief operating officer and the Dr. Charles M. Smith chief of physics. The transition is the culmination of a succession plan adopted by the board to succeed Todd Stevens, the Cancer Center’s longtime CEO. Stevens will transition his time to concentrate on strategic business development and growth opportunities to advance Mary Bird Perkins’ mission across its regional network.

The Jag Mobile, a mobile health unit created in partnership between Ochsner Baton Rouge and Southern University, will visit Baton Rouge-area neighborhoods this fall providing breast cancer screenings. The screenings, which take place from September through November, are provided free of charge, thanks to funding from the American Cancer Society.

No pre-scheduling or pre-registration is required, regardless of insurance status, and the screenings are open to the public.

Our Lady of the Lake Foundation recently received a $150,000 contribution from BASF to expand services at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Health. 

The recent donation will specifically support the expansion of the Child Life Program at Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital. Child life specialists help guide patients and their families during their stay at the hospital, making it a less scary place. The gift will also support programs at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Health Children’s Developmental Center at McMains.

Ochsner Baton Rouge will begin accepting patients on Sept. 27 for Ochsner 65 Plus – Bocage at 7949 Jefferson Highway, Suite B.

A new patient-care concept from Ochsner, the clinic is a destination for patients 65 and over. It is designed to include a primary care clinic, gym, and a community center for socializing in a safe, comfortable, and caring environment.

Ochsner Health’s Board of Directors announced that after 24 years of service to the organization, Warner Thomas will enter the next chapter of his career as president and CEO of Sutter Health, an integrated not-for-profit network of 22 hospitals, 12,000 aligned physicians, 53,000 employees, and more than $14B in revenue in 2021.
