Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) physicians are hosting the New Cardiovascular Horizons (NCVH) Medical Conference on Feb. 11 from 7 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. at the Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center, 201 Lafayette Street in Baton Rouge. Satish Gadi, MD, and Craig Walker, MD, will serve as chairmen of this event.

Opelousas General Health System (OGHS) and Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center (Mary Bird Perkins) is celebrating the completion of an agreement to expand and enhance cancer care resources in the Greater Opelousas area, effective immediately. Through this partnership, Acadiana patients have convenient access to the team of cancer care specialists through Mary Bird Perkins. Cancer services will continue to be provided on OGHS’ South Campus, 3983 I-49 S. Service Rd.

Emily Magee, MD, FACOG, has been elected to a one-year term as chief of the medical staff of Woman’s Hospital.

Magee is a board-certified OB-GYN whose duties include the coordination of clinical improvement activities as well as chairing the Medical Executive Committee. As chief of staff, she will also serve on the Woman's Board of Directors.

Baton Rouge General (BRG) announced that it has named Aaron DeWitt, MD, as chief medical officer at the Mid City campus. Board-certified in internal medicine, DeWitt will oversee medical services and clinical strategy to ensure the hospital continues to grow and meet the needs of the community.  DeWitt was instrumental in the process of bringing acute care services back to the Mid City campus during the height of the COVID crisis.

Woman’s Hospital launched the Exercise is Medicine (EIM) program, an evidence-based approach to fitness that enables participants to manage symptoms of chronic illness or disease as well as improve overall personal health. The program, located at Woman’s Center for Wellness on Jefferson Highway, is the first and only of its kind in the greater Baton Rouge area.
