Local reports indicate a rise in RSV, a respiratory infection that causes cold-like symptoms and which can be serious among young children. However, Ochsner Baton Rouge pediatricians say testing for RSV is usually not necessary.

“Parents are telling me that daycares are seeing a lot of RSV,” said Truc Dinh, Dr., a general pediatrician at Ochsner Health Center - Bluebonnet South. “We typically don’t test for RSV because it doesn’t change how we treat the symptoms. In either case, treatment is the same, so it’s not always necessary to put the child through the test.”

Baton Rouge General (BRG) is launching The Healthy Men Project to encourage men ages 30-50 to be more proactive about their health and set goals that work for them. The new campaign will begin with a July 24 kick-off event at BRG’s Bluebonnet campus from 8-11 a.m. The free event will combine the “need-to-do” tasks like health screenings and Ask the Expert stations with some “fun-to-do” stuff, including climbing demos, bloody Mary and vodka tastings, putting and batting contests, and more.

In its continued effort to ensure that expert cancer treatment, early detection programs, and vital support services are available to the residents of Ascension Parish, the Gonzales Area Foundation recently donated $80,000 to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Gonzales. The funds will be used to provide services and programs at no cost to cancer patients and their families.
