Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center has named Melissa O’Banion to the role of vice president of marketing and communications where she is responsible for advancing the organization’s mission through comprehensive messaging and brand strategies.

In response to the need for addictive disorders treatment for women in the Baton Rouge region, Capital Area Human Services (CAHS) has modified its residential facility to serve women over the age of 18.

The program, called Capital Area Recovery Program (CARP), located at 2455 Wooddale Blvd. in Baton Rouge, previously only served adult males, providing comprehensive treatment and recovery support services for individuals with substance use disorders. The 28-day program is open to all Louisiana residents.

During 2022, the BROC Foundation offered its Athletic Training Outreach Program, providing nationally certified and state licensed athletic trainers to multiple high schools and youth sports organizations. Along with physician oversight, the Foundation’s staff members provided coverage at a completely free Friday Night Football Clinic, where they evaluated and treated dozens of high school student-athletes.

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center has announced Nicole Honoré as director of the organization’s Alliance for Cancer Care Equity (the Alliance) project. Honoré will manage the day-to-day implementation of Mary Bird Perkins’ $2 million project funded by the Merck Foundation designed to provide evidence-informed, multi-level interventions to improve patient-centered care for communities in North Baton Rouge.

The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) is introducing five new and additional initiatives focused on the behavioral health of children and adolescents and their families. These initiatives, titled Services from the Start: Providing Behavioral Health Support for Louisiana Families, focus on improved access to early childhood, adolescent, and family behavioral health services.
