As Louisiana begins to experience high seasonal temperatures, the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) is reminding residents that extreme heat is dangerous and can be fatal.

Extreme heat can be particularly dangerous after hurricanes. Of the 65 deaths attributed to hurricanes Delta, Zeta, Laura, and Ida, 22 were due to heat. An LDH report covering the years before those hurricanes also found that an average of nearly 3,000 people in Louisiana are hospitalized or treated in emergency departments annually due to heat-related illness.

North Oaks Health System’s Dietetic Internship faculty and staff honored seven graduates for completing the program with a graduation ceremony on June 15. The health system’s Chief Human Resources Officer Jeff Jarreau presided over the ceremony, held at the E. Brent Dufreche Conference Center on the North Oaks Medical Center campus.

Ochsner Health has named Jim Molloy as the organization’s next executive vice president, chief financial officer, and treasurer. A leader at Citi bringing decades of extensive experience in healthcare finance, Molloy will oversee the organization’s accounting, financial planning and analysis, reimbursement and revenue cycle functions, as well as managed care contracting and treasury.

Our Lady of the Lake Physician Group Surgeons Group of Baton Rouge recently named its 20th fellow for its Fellowship in gastrointestinal minimally invasive surgery (GI MIS) through the Fellowship Council.

David Kelter, MD, was chosen from among 83 applicants. He earned an undergraduate degree from Northeastern University, Boston, Mass., and a Doctor of Medicine from St. George’s University School of Medicine, St. George, Grenada.  He completed a residency in general surgery at Inspira Health Network, Vineland, New Jersey.
