Our Lady of the Lake Health is now offering virtual cardiac rehabilitation services through Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System’s partnership with Recora. The program expands access for heart disease patients, allowing them to recover from home in a virtual environment in addition to the center-based cardiac rehab facility at Our Lady of the Lake Heart & Vascular Institute.

Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University’s summer institute welcomed 35 high school students July 10-15 at the The Tracy Center.  

The Franciscan Experience Summer Institute is for rising juniors and seniors in high school. The week is devoted to fostering a community of young people who are interested in going deeper into what it means to discern vocation through the eyes and heart of St. Francis of Assisi. 

Some of the events throughout the week include Mass, adoration, presentations from FranU Theology professors, TFE Olympics, and service experiences.

The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) is reminding the public to take precautions against mosquito bites that can expose people to West Nile virus (WNV). During 2022, Louisiana experienced 41 West Nile neuroinvasive disease (NID) cases and seven deaths.

West Nile virus is spread by mosquitoes and can cause illness in people and animals. While 80% of human cases are asymptomatic, many people can develop West Nile fever. Symptoms of West Nile fever, which is a flu-like illness, can include fever, headache, body aches, nausea, and/or rashes.

Woman’s Hospital urges safety as extreme heat marks the beginning of a dangerous season for pregnant women. Staying cool in the summer heat becomes more difficult when expecting. 

Pregnant women are more likely to suffer from heat-related illnesses, such as dehydration, heat stroke, and heat exhaustion than non-pregnant women. Extremely hot conditions can elevate a pregnant woman’s internal body temperature, which in some cases has been linked to birth defects and pregnancy complications.
