Baton Rouge native and pediatric neurosurgeon Lori McBride, MD is returning home to join the team at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Health, as it continues to grow its network of pediatric specialists. Dr. McBride, one of only eight pediatric neurosurgeons in Louisiana, brings more than 20 years of experience in specialty areas such as neurotrauma, epilepsy, and brain tumor surgery.

Terrebonne General Medical Center (TGMC) announced that Kendra Breaux, RN,  was awarded the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing - Clinical Nurse of the Year Award by Nicholls State University. The award recognizes nurses who consistently practice excellence in a clinical setting, in nursing education and/or nursing leadership.

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation has awarded two $10,000 New Horizons grants to Baton Rouge-area organizations for innovation projects.

LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center will study the effectiveness of playground stenciling, and its impact on student health and children’s physical activity. Stencils are a low-cost approach to encouraging exercise for kids at schools, and other institutions, that don’t have the dollars to expand playgrounds, or purchase large physical activity equipment.
