Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center has received a $15,000 grant from Sisters Network® Inc. Karen E. Jackson Breast Cancer Assistance Program (BCAP) to expand access to mammogram services for uninsured women across our region. This funding will be used to support Mary Bird Perkins’ Prevention on the Go (POGO) program and will extend services to women across 31 parishes in Louisiana and four counties in Southwest Mississippi.

St. Tammany Parish coroner-elect Dr. Christopher Tape drew backlash from advocacy groups Thursday after he told reporters he intends to have local hospitals take over for his office’s sexual assault examination program. But state law might prevent him from taking that action.

On the evening of March 23, friends and supporters of Children’s Hospital New Orleans attended the 42nd annual Sugarplum Ball, themed How Sweet It Is. The signature fundraiser, presented by LEMOINE, was set at the River City Ballroom and Plaza at Mardi Gras World, and raised a record-breaking $2.35M in support of the hospital’s vital mission.

Our Lady of the Lake Health and Ascension Parish Government held a ribbon cutting on March 19 to officially reintroduce the Ascension Parish Health Unit and Ascension Counseling Center as part of the Healthy Ascension community endeavor agreement signed between the two last year.    
The Ascension Parish Health Unit is located at 1024 E. Ascension Complex Blvd. in Gonzales, La.

The American Heart Association announced Kristen Gradney, MHA, RDN, LDN, chief wellness officer at LCMC Health, as the community volunteer chair of the 2023-2024 Baton Rouge Go Red for Women movement. Go Red for Women is a worldwide initiative of the American Heart Association designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women locally, nationally, and globally.
