The Centers for Medicaid and Medicaid Services (CMS) has granted approval for Louisiana Medicaid to launch Act 421 Children’s Medicaid Option, or TEFRA, effective Jan. 1, 2022. This program allows certain children under 19 years of age with disabilities to receive Medicaid coverage, regardless of parental income. 

The TEFRA option disregards family income for children with disabilities who meet specific criteria, so they may qualify for Medicaid to cover the services they need to grow and thrive while living at home.

Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Institute moved into its newly renovated facilities this weekend and began seeing patients on Dec. 20.

The 19,500 sq. feet of renovated space will serve patients for imaging, non-oncology infusion, palliative care, oncology infusion, and Our Lady of the Lake Physician Group (OLOLPG) Medical Oncology. This care was previously received in the Mary Bird Perkins building but administered by Our Lady of the Lake.

The Louisiana Department of Health is issuing updated guidance for the holidays, as the Omicron variant spreads and COVID-19 trends worsen. 

"CDC estimates that Omicron is now the dominant COVID-19 variant in the United States and in Louisiana's region," said State Epidemiologist Theresa Sokol. "It is startling how quickly this happened, but it is not surprising."

Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Institute, which was announced earlier this fall, began moving into its newly renovated facilities this weekend. In preparation for the move, Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Institute held an event on Dec. 16, in which the new spaces were blessed and dedicated to serving the area’s cancer patients.
