Eligible participants in the Geaux Get Healthy program receive nutrition education classes that include a guided grocery store tour, cooking class, a Dollar General gift card, and connections to other valuable community resources. AndrewBishop, MD, Joins BRGHeart and Vascular Surgery Andrew Bishop, MD, a cardiothoracic surgeon, has recently joined Baton Rouge General (BRG) Heart and Vascular Surgery. He specializes in heart valve and heart bypass surgery, and treating coro- nary artery disease and thoracic cancer. Bishop received a medical degree from the Uni- versity of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences, then completed an integrated cardio- thoracic surgery residency at the University of Ken- tucky Medical Center. At BRG Heart and Vascular Surgery, he joins car- diothoracic surgeon Michael Weaver, MD, FACS, and together, they work alongside BRG’s team of vascular surgeons: Mickey Graphia, MD; Joseph Griffin, MD, FACS; Victor Q. Tran, MD, FACS; and M. Vincent Weaver, MD, FACS. Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center Nationally Recognized for Cardiovascular Care Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Cen- ter has received two American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines achievement awards for demonstrating commitment to following up-to- date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of heart disease and stroke, ultimately leading to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer readmissions to the hospital. Heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death in the United States, respec- tively, according to the American Heart Associa- tion 2025 Statistical Update. Studies show patients can recover better when providers consistently fol- low treatment guidelines. As a participant in the Get With The Guide- lines programs, Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center qualified for the awards by dem- onstrating how their organization has committed to improving quality care. This is the sixth year in a row Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center has won the Get With The Guidelines - Heart Failure Gold Plus with Target: Heart Failure Optimal and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll. This is the fifth time in a row Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Cen- ter has won the Get With The Guidelines - Stroke Gold Plus Award. Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center has added a new milestone this year with part of the stroke award including Tar- get: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus with Advanced Therapy and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll. “These awards show Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center’s commitment to caring for those in their community who need cardiovas- cular care,” said Donald Lloyd-Jones, past volun- teer president of the American Heart Association and current volunteer chair of the Association’s Quality Oversight Committee. “By following the American Heart Association’s quality improvement protocols, Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medi- cal Center can help realize our shared vision of improved patient outcomes, fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates — a win for health care systems, families and communities.” OLOL Health’s Geaux Get Healthy Clinical Program Celebrates 5 Years On June 28, community members gathered at Our Lady of the Lake North to celebrate five years of the Geaux Get Healthy clinical program, a com- munity wellness initiative that is improving access to nutritious food and empowering healthier lives across Baton Rouge. Geaux Get Healthy consists of a coalition of local organizations working collaboratively to reduce food insecurity in Baton Rouge’s highest needs neighborhoods and to co-create a thriv- ing local food landscape.
