CIS Celebrates 40 Years of Operation On Aug. 15, Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) celebrated 40 years of providing advanced cardiovascular care. Over the past 40 years, CIS grew from one clinic to 20. Now, with nearly 1,200 team members and 60 physicians, CIS continues to treat all forms of cardiovascular disease with the latest technology and compassionate care. Through the years, CIS has pioneered hun- dreds of new procedures and devices to improve patient outcomes and quality of life. CIS physi- cians strive to not only use the latest advance- ments, but to educate and train others in them as well. CIS entered the landscape of virtual care in 2018 with a 24/7 Virtual Care Center in Lafayette, and more recently, CIS opened its Ambulatory Surgery Center in Gray, Louisiana, to offer com- fortable, cost-effective, and innovative outpatient procedures. CIS has grown nationally through the use of new technology, virtual care, and interven- tional and outpatient procedures. “CIS has truly been my dream realized,” said Craig Walker, MD, founder. “Our mission is, and always was, to provide our patients the highest- quality cardiovascular care available. It is amazing to see how CIS has grown, and our success would not have been possible without our team, our patients and our supporters.” Carl McLemore, MD, is 2023 LAFP FamilyMedicine Physician of the Year Carl McLemore, MD, family medicine physician at Our Lady of the Lake Physician Group New Roads, was recently honored as the 2023 Family Medicine Physician of the Year by the Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians (LAFP). By receiv- ing the award, McLemore is also nominated for the Family Physician of the Year Award held at the national level by the American Academy of Fam- ily Medicine Physicians. “Dr. McLemore is a true pillar of the Pointe Cou- pee community,” said James Craven, MD, pres- ident of Our Lady of the Lake Physician Group. “Through his compassionate care and expertise, Dr. McLemore provides a personalized approach for his patients of all ages. He truly embodies everything this award stands for.” McLemore is an active staff member of Pointe Coupee General Hospital in New Roads, a mem- ber of the American Academy of Family Physi- cians and Louisiana Academy of Family Physi- cians, and is board-certified in family medicine. He is also a preceptor for Tulane University Med- ical students and Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University physician assistant students. CodyMilliman, MD, Joins Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center has announced that Cody L. Milliman, MD, an American Board of Internal Medicine-certified medical oncologist, is joining its cancer care team. “At Mary Bird Perkins, our respected and renowned team of physician-experts prides itself on providing innovative and individualized care,” said Jonas Fontenot, PhD, MBA, president and CEO, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. “Dr. Mil- liman’s clinical expertise ensures that patients across our network have access to yet another leader in the field of cancer care.” Milliman received a Bachelor of Science in bio- chemistry and microbiology from Louisiana State University. He earned a Doctor of Medicine from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. Following graduation, Milliman completed an internship and residency through the Tinsley Harrison Internal Medicine Residency Program at the University of Alabama at Birming- ham, where he also holds a fellowship in hema- tology and oncology through the O’Neal Com- prehensive Cancer Center. Milliman will practice with Louisiana Hema- tology Oncology Associates. He will care for patients at the Cancer Center’s Essen Lane loca- tion and Mary Bird Perkins’ clinics on the campus of Baton Rouge General and Opelousas General Health System. FranUHolds Blessing, Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for St. Francis Hall Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University held a blessing and ribbon cutting ceremony on Aug. 9 for its new signature building, St. Fran- cis Hall. The 75,000-square-foot, three-story building will better accommodate student learning and devel- opment at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. St. Francis Hall represents the initial step in the development of the university’s campus mas- ter plan. Located at 5414 Brittany Drive, this build- ing will serve as the front door to a cohesive and identifiable campus. Driven by the university’s mission, the facility will provide an interactive and student-centered environment. The building will contain mod- ular spaces that can support multiple educa- tional activities and social events of varied sizes. Learning outside of the classroom will be facili- tated by interactive student spaces adjacent to instructional spaces, promoting ongoing syner- gies between formal and informal learning, and enhancing the relationship-based education char- acteristic of a Franciscan University. Woman’s Hospital to Host Breast and Gynecologic Cancers Summit Woman’s Hospital will host its Breast and Gynecologic Cancers Summit, a free educa- tional event, on Sept. 30 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. The
