North Oaks Health System Awarded Funds for Safety Grant North Oaks Health System is one of 14 Louisiana healthcare facilities to receive the 2023 Funds for Safety grant sponsored by LHA Trust Funds. The annual grant program helps healthcare organiza- tions fund their unique patient safety improve- ment initiatives. North Oaks Health System’s Funds for Safety initiative is to implement an integrated technol- ogy in the emergency department that will assist clinical staff with appropriate alerts for high-fall- risk patients. Stretchers with integrated scales and two-stage bed exit alarms will be used to decrease patient falls by monitoring pressure sensitivity. LHA Trust Funds created the Funds for Safety grant program in 2012 to help fund its members’ initiatives to improve patient safety. Since its cre- ation, the grant program has awarded more than $3.3 million to fund more than 100 unique projects for facilities in Louisiana. Woman’s Hospital Receives Magnet Recognition fromANCC Woman’s Hospital has again attained Magnet recognition from The American Nurses Creden- tialing Center (ANCC), the highest honor an orga- nization can receive for professional nursing prac- tice. First recognized by ANCC in 2006, Woman’s is one of only 608 healthcare organizations world- wide to earn Magnet accreditation. The ANCC Magnet Recognition Program dis- tinguishes healthcare organizations that meet rigorous standards for nursing excellence. The Magnet Model provides a framework for nurs- ing practice, research, and measurement of out- comes. Through this framework, ANCC evaluates applicants across several dimensions to gauge an organization’s nursing excellence. These include the quality of nursing leadership, coordination, and collaboration across specialties and processes for measuring and improving the quality and deliv- ery of care. Our Lady of the Lake Health Announces Christopher Tom Trevino, MD, as VP, Physician Executive – Baton Rouge Market Emergency Services Our Lady of the Lake Health has announced Christopher Tom Trevino, MD, as its new VP, phy- sician executive - Baton Rouge market emer- gency services. Our Lady of the Lake Health treats approximately 200,000 people across its six emer- gency rooms each year, and Trevino will help to improve outcomes at all sites of care. Trevino is board-certified in emergency med- icine. He received a medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport and has been in practice for more than 25 years. Since 1999, he has served in numerous medical director roles at Our Lady of the Lake Ascension, which was known as St. Elizabeth Hospital at the time. Trevino will continue in his administrative role at Our Lady of the Lake Ascension as its chief medical officer. Ochsner Health Eliminates 770 Employee Positions In a May 11, 2023 message fromOchsner Health CEO Pete November, it was announced that the organization is reducing the size of its workforce “by eliminating 770 positions.” The number rep- resents roughly 2% of the health system’s team. “Impacted positions are management and pri- marily non-direct patient care roles. No physicians are impacted by this reduction, and any impacted employees with active clinical credentials will be offered direct patient care roles,” the message read. “Despite progress and our significant efforts to reduce expenses, we need to do more to ensure we can continue to deliver on our mission and meet the needs of the patients and communities we serve,” added November. “I take very seriously the gravity of this decision and its impact on our team members and their families,” November wrote. “We will do every- thing we can to deliver the resources and sup- port our team needs and treat everyone leaving our organization with the respect and dignity they deserve.” Kristen Pontiff, MD, FAAP, is PEDMedical Director, OLOL Children’s Hospital Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Health has announced Kristen Pontiff, MD, FAAP, as the med- ical director of the pediatric emergency depart- ment at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital. Pontiff is board-certified in pediatric emergency medicine, general pediatrics. She received a med- ical degree from Ross University School of Medi- cine in Dominica, West Indies, and completed a pediatric residency at Our Lady of the Lake Chil- dren’s Hospital in 2016. Pontiff served as an assistant professor of pedi- atrics in emergency medicine at both Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt and Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, before returning to Baton Rouge.
