The Journal has addressed many in this year’s series as we looked into the impact drug misuse has on the minds and bodies of those caught in its cruel web. When illicit drug usage does irreparable harm to organs, we often have the ability to save the person through a transplant, but because of current or past drug use, the candidate is often deemed unworthy and the organ is given to another. Zach Rozenbaum, MD, of the Tulane University Section of Cardiology, reached out to tell us some good news for those facing this challenge.
