Patients also have access to a group room with a foosball table and a private dining/multi-purpose room decorated with local and regional photog- raphy and artwork. All units have been designed to provide a peaceful and calming environment. Low stimulus rooms are available, as well as those designed for activity. The unit will be staffed by five physicians, seven nurse practitioners and physician assistants, and several support staff. Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Health Adds Pediatric Neurologist to Team Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Health wel- comed Shannon McGuire, MD, to its pediat- ric neurology team. Pediatric neurologists deal exclusively with the nervous system of newborns, infants, children, and adolescents. They diagnose, treat, and consult with caregivers for a number of neurological disorders, including developmental delays and disabilities. McGuire earned a medical degree from Louisi- ana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. After medical school, she went on to complete residencies in pediatrics at Albert Ein- stein Medical Center in Philadelphia, followed by a residency in child neurology at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. McGuire com- pleted a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical neu- rophysiology, epilepsy, and sleep medicine. She also spent time during her fellowship at Miami Children’s hospital for clinical neurophysiology for evaluation and surgical intervention and treat- ment of epilepsy. She has spent more than 25 years investing in her specialties which include pediatric neurology, clinical neurophysiology, and the treatment of children who suffer from epilepsy. McGuire has dedicated her career to researching, publishing articles, and pursuing ways to combat epilepsy which at this time has no known cure. In addi- tion, she has a special interest in pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic evaluation and treatment of epilepsy. McGuire is a member of several professional organizations including the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, the American Epi- lepsy Society, Child Neurology Society, and the Southern Pediatric Neurology Society. McGuire also served as director for the pediatric section of the Louisiana Epilepsy Center of Excellence and currently serves on the board of directors as chair for The Epilepsy Alliance of Louisiana. She joins Charlotte Hollman, MD, at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Health Neurology, located at 8200 Constantin Blvd in Baton Rouge. Ochsner Announces Expansion in Greater Baton Rouge On the heels of announcing the groundbreak- ing of Ochsner Health Center – Gonzales, Och- sner Baton Rouge announces additional expan- sion efforts in the Capital Area. Ochsner Cancer Center – Baton Rouge is cur- rently undergoing a first-floor renovation with the aid of Kent Design+Build Inc., and Grace Hebert Curtis Architects. The project, covering 1,668 square feet, is renovating existing space to incorporate upgraded equipment for positron emission tomography scans, also known as a PET scan or PET-CT. Construction costs are approximately $1.36 mil- lion, while the new PET-CT machine exceeds an additional $1 million. For many types of cancer, a PET scan can help find the location of the can- cer and determine its stage and if it has spread. “We are grateful to continue growing and expanding our services to meet the needs of our patients,” stated Eric McMillen, CEO, Ochsner Baton Rouge. “Our complete care approach involves a fully integrated electronic medical record that results in seamless care.” At 11200 Industriplex Blvd., in Baton Rouge, Ochsner is currently working with contractor Stu- art & Company and Grace Hebert Curtis Archi- tects on a new specialty pharmacy. Staff at a specialty pharmacy work as part of the patient’s care team to assist in obtaining difficult to acquire medications, as well as helping to navigate insur- ance, obtain financial assistance, and support each patient’s education and care. The 13,185-square-foot space offers a second specialty pharmacy location to further support Ochsner’s growing patient population across the state. The original Ochsner Specialty Pharmacy is located at 1405 Jefferson Hwy., in New Orleans. The $4.3 million project will create a pharmacy operation of packaging and shipping specialty medications that are delivered to the front door of patients. The building will also allow for lim- ited onsite pickup. Timeline for completion of both projects is August 2021.
