Healthcare Journal of BATON ROUGE I  NOV / DEC 2019 25 M ike Rogers has crafted a unique blend of career successes in managed healthcare finance, operations, strategy, and governance into a knowledge-base that he effectively employs to benefit the approved members of the Smoking Cessation Trust. He has been leading the Trust’s business since late 2011, when he and his team first built the program, and is currently in his eighth year in this role. Prior to his current position with SCTMS, Rogers was the founder and president of Southern Provider Consultants, Inc. (SPC), and held that position for over 16 years, consulting with both the managed care industry and healthcare industry, specializing in recovery of troubled MCO’s and revenue cycle management for a full spectrum of health care organizations: health insurers, preferred provider organizations, health maintenance organizations, hospi- tals, academic health centers, independent practice associations, physician hospital organizations, and individual healthcare practices. Prior to his consulting roles, Rogers was president of Aetna Health Plans of Louisiana, Inc., Aetna’s HMO com- pany in that state, as well as market vice president for Aetna’s other healthcare insurance businesses in the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas. Under his leadership, the Louisiana HMO was recognized as the most profit- able health plan in Aetna’s national system of health plans. Before serving as market vice president, Rogers held a number of key management positions with regional and national responsibility at Aetna Health Plans and its pre- decessor, Partners National Health Plans. Rogers is a former vice president of the University of New Orleans Business/Higher Education Council, and has taught graduate-level courses at UNO in managed care concepts, managed care contracting methods, and healthcare accounting. He is a past member of the board of directors and past secretary/treasurer of the Louisiana Managed Healthcare Association. He is also a former member of the board of directors of the Louisiana Children’s Museum. Rogers is a graduate of UNO, earning a master of science degree in healthcare management. He earned two bach- elor of science degrees from Louisiana State University, in finance and business management and administration.
