Neigh- borhood hospitals are a relatively new concept, designed to be convenient and easy to access for a local community. Once construction is com- plete, the hospital will provide care 24 hours a day and will be fully-equipped to offer comprehensive, convenient care for a variety of conditions, includ- ing chest pain and heart attacks, broken bones, stroke, abdominal pain, burns, seizures, dehydra- tion, allergic reactions, and much more. Ascension Parish is one of the fastest growing areas in the country, with its population increasing by 13 percent since 2010. Census estimates pre- dict an additional 40 percent growth by 2025. Last year, approximately 25,000 patients from Ascen- sion Parish came to Baton Rouge General for care. Harmonic Grove Installation Begins at Freestanding OLOL Children’s Hospital Children and families who arrive at the free- standing Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospi- tal next fall will encounter an enchanting entrance unlike any they have seen or heard before. Patients and visitors will enter beneath a can- opy of blue and green transparent glass that casts calming, colorful shadows while Louisiana sounds flow from 24 speakers. Installation began recently on the 4,000 square-foot canopy that consists of 88 sheets of 6’ x 6’ thick, transparent colored glass. The structure is welded together by 12 columns. The interactive feature allows anyone who presses a hand to one of the handprints located on the support columns to trigger a series of melodic instruments that will also affect the lighting. Called the Harmonic Grove, it is intended to cre- ate a soothing but creatively playful environment and is another way children and families will expe- rience a place designed and built from the ground up just for them. The canopy was designed by Christopher Janney, a renowned artist, musician, and architect from Boston. The canopy was made possible by generous gifts by local contractors, the largest of which was from Steve and Kathy Nathanson. n Christopher Janney, artist and architect, watches as the Harmonic Grove canopy is installed at the new freestanding Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital set to open in October.
