The heART trails will safely connect people, neighborhoods, businesses, health, and art to create a true community of caring.” “Through these heart-healthy trails, which will have art that changes and grows over time, par- ticipants can discover and rediscover all that is wonderful about our city,” said Renee Chatelain, president and CEO of the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge. “We are so excited to have the opportunity to be part of the Baton Rouge Gen- eral’s vision to restore and maintain health, one person at a time.” The Arts Council piloted the heART trail con- cept at the Ebb & Flow Festival in April. The trails will be created and designed by Taylor Jacobsen, who is currently working on his master’s degree in LSU’s Landscape Architecture program. He is the co-founder of United Aerial, a Dallas-based com- pany, and the owner of New Land Development. The CEA program allows BRG to support large projects with significant, multi-year grants, focus- ing on initiatives that are transformative for the Baton Rouge community. Nonprofit organiza- tions seeking support are asked to address com- plex challenges like social determinants of health, quality of place, and population health. Informational sessions about the grant process will begin in January for the 2020 award; applica- tions will be accepted in the spring. Nurses Honored at BRG’s Annual Nurse Excellence Awards Ceremony Nurses, clinicians, and professionals were hon- ored for excellence in nursing at Baton Rouge General’s (BRG) 2019 Nurse Excellence Awards Ceremony and Banquet held at L’Auberge Casino Resort. The annual event recognizes nurses and individuals whose contributions and leadership advance the practice of nursing, and support the health and wellness of our communities. The ceremony opened with a welcome by Edgardo Tenreiro, president and CEO of BRG, and Chief Nursing Officer Monica Nijoka, RN, MSN, served as master of ceremony. Phyllis McLaurin, chairman of BRG’s Board of Trustees, and Louis Minsky, MD, chief of staff, also provided remarks. “Baton Rouge General has a reputation for superior nursing care in our community, and each of this year’s nominees contribute to the profes- sion, which for them is truly a calling,” Nijoka said. “Nursing is gift, and nursing excellence is when we pass that gift on to our patients.” The 2019 BRG Nurse Excellence Award win- ners are: Nurse of the Year (Traditional) Rosiefer Tulagan, RN, Cardio-Telemetry Nurse of the Year (Non-Traditional) Laura Gomez, RN, Education Edith LoBue Nursing Leadership Award Jennifer Manale, RN, Director of Perioperative Services Nurse Rookie of the Year Colleen Prejean, RN, ICU LPN of the Year Lakesha Wilson, LPN, Employee Health PCA of the Year Itearia Breaux, Oncology and Beth Mayo, Oncology In addition to the awards, scholarships were presented at the ceremony to Marcia Henry, RN, and Hannah Reynolds, RN, to support advancing Woman’s Hospital Welcomes Moms-to-Be at Baby Grand Woman’s Hospital recently hosted Baby Grand at 100 Woman’s Way. The event was focused on the needs of local moms-to- be and their families, offering opportunities to experience tours of the hospital’s Labor and Delivery and Mother/Baby Unit, meet local pediatricians, and attend seminars focused on taking care of baby while taking care of themselves.  In addition, dozens of local businesses that cater to growing families offered information on nutrition, safety, baby supplies, financial planning, pregnancy memorabilia, and more. The event was free, and open to the public.
