Cardiovascular Institute of the South Hosts Free Screening Event Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) hosted a free Wine and Wellness Event featuring vascular ultrasounds and blood pressure screen- ings at the CIS Baton Rouge clinic located at 8401 Picardy Ave. A vascular ultrasound is a painless screening used to test for venous disease, a condition that develops when vein valves become damaged or diseased. Venous disease can cause blood to pool in the legs, making varicose or spider veins visible. In some cases, this can lead to swelling and venous ulcers at the lower calf and ankle. That is why it is important to consult a vascular specialist if visible veins are present. Interventional cardiologists Drs. Amit Patel and Satish Gadi provided personal risk consultations at this event. Blood pressure screenings were also offered, as high blood pressure is a major risk fac- tor of vascular disease. Additional patient education was provided for those interested in learning more about vascu- lar disease and smoking cessation services. The event also included hors d’oeuvres and red wine sampling.
