Throughout October, Ochsner Baton Rouge is adding expanded mammography appointments and will host its annual Massages & Mammos event, helping women prioritize their breast health.
Massages & Mammos is from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Oct. 10 at Ochsner Medical Complex – The Grove, 10210 The Grove Blvd., near the Mall of Louisiana.
Ochsner will offer extended Saturday mammography hours on the following dates:
Oct. 10,:9 a.m.-noon at Ochsner Medical Complex – The Grove, Massages & Mammos
Oct. 17, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Ochsner Medical Center – Baton Rouge
Oct. 24, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at Ochsner Medical Complex – The Grove
Oct. 31, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at Ochsner Medical Center – Baton Rouge
Massages & Mammos is open to everyone, and attendees do not need to receive a mammogram to participate. Friends and family members are welcome to attend in support of a loved one or learn more about breast health. Attendees can learn more about breast cancer screening options, receive complimentary Ochsner swag and no-cost chair massages, and have opportunities to win prizes.
Ochsner recommends women begin scheduling annual mammograms at age 40. Women should also be familiar with how their breasts normally look and feel and report changes to their healthcare provider. Changes can include swelling, skin irritation or dimpling, breast or nipple pain, or thickening of the skin. Because many breast cancers do not cause noticeable symptoms, routine mammograms can play an important role in detecting cancer earlier.
Call (225) 761-5380 to reserve a spot at Massages & Mammos. For more information about Ochsner Baton Rouge’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities and screening opportunities, visit https://www.ochsner.org/massagesandmammos.
In addition, expecting parents are invited to learn more about pregnancy, childbirth, and newborn care at O Baby, A Maternity Experience. There is no cost to attend the event taking place on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Ochsner Medical Center - Baton Rouge, 17000 Medical Center Dr. in Baton Rouge.
The community event gives families an opportunity to tour the Ochsner labor and delivery and mother-baby units, meet members of the maternity care team, have baby car seat installations inspected by state police, and learn about resources available throughout pregnancy, delivery and the first days at home with a newborn. Local vendors will be on-site as well.
Ochsner midwives, OB-GYNs, pediatricians and nurses will be available throughout the event to meet families and answer questions. Attendees can also learn more about lactation support, preparing for a hospital stay, what to expect during labor and delivery, newborn care, and resources available after returning home.
