Our Lady of the Lake Health, LSU to Host Sports Emergency Care Course

Our Lady of the Lake Health and LSU are collaborating with Action Medicine Consultants to host a two-day sports emergency care course designed to help prepare team physicians, athletic trainers, and other medical personnel for emergency medicine situations that can occur during athletic events.

The course will include hands-on labs focusing on treating athlete airways, cardiovascular events, and trauma situations as well as presentations from industry leaders — headlined by Jim Ellis, MD, the NFL’s medical director of player health and safety and chief medical officer of the College Football Playoff and the United Football League.

“This course is a great opportunity for providers and other medical professionals in the region to collaborate with each other and learn the latest practices and techniques to help keep our athletes safe,” said Catherine O’Neal, MD, chief medical officer at Our Lady of the Lake Health and chief medical advisor of the SEC. “It’s important for us, as athletic medical providers, to work together and share our experiences to help everyone stay at the top of their game."

The course will be divided into two segments, with the Interdisciplinary sports emergency care course scheduled for July 12 from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. and the team physician course on July 13 from 7 a.m. – 1 p.m. Both segments will be held at the South Stadium Club inside LSU’s Tiger Stadium.
