Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Health welcomed Shannon McGuire, MD, to its pediatric neurology team. Pediatric neurologists deal exclusively with the nervous system of newborns, infants, children, and adolescents. They diagnose, treat, and consult with caregivers for a number of neurological disorders, including developmental delays and disabilities.
McGuire earned a medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. After medical school, she went on to complete residencies in pediatrics at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, followed by a residency in child neurology at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. McGuire completed a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical neurophysiology, epilepsy, and sleep medicine. She also spent time during herfFellowship at Miami Children’s hospital for clinical neurophysiology for evaluation and surgical intervention and treatment of epilepsy.
She has spent more than 25 years investing in her specialties which include pediatric neurology, clinical neurophysiology, and the treatment of children who suffer from epilepsy. McGuire has dedicated her career to researching, publishing articles, and pursuing ways to combat epilepsy which at this time has no known cure. In addition, she has a special interest in pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic evaluation and treatment of epilepsy.
McGuire is a member of several professional organizations including the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, the American Epilepsy Society, Child Neurology Society, and the Southern Pediatric Neurology Society. McGuire also served as director for the pediatric section of the Louisiana Epilepsy Center of Excellence and currently serves on the board of directors as chair for The Epilepsy Alliance of Louisiana. She joins Charlotte Hollman, MD, at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Health Neurology, located at 8200 Constantin Blvd in Baton Rouge.
