New Urology Group Coming to Baton Rouge General

Baton Rouge General announced the addition of Premier Urology, a new clinic led by Ayme Schmeeckle, MD; Ross Cockrell, MD; Wesley Porta, MD; and Meredith Rosenzwieg, MD.

The new clinic is located in BRG’s Center for Health building, which houses the hospital’s newest outpatient surgery center.

Schemeeckle serves in a leadership role on the medical staff at BRG, currently as the chair of surgical services and previously as chief of urology, and has treated the community’s urological needs for 12 years. She graduated from LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport then completed an internship in general surgery and residency in urology at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport.

A graduate of the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, Porta completed both an internship in general surgery and a residency in urology at LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport. Following residency in 2015, he returned to his native Baton Rouge to practice urology.

Cockrell received a medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, then completed a surgical internship at St. Louis University and a urology residency at the University of Pennsylvania. He also completed a fellowship in urologic robotic and minimally invasive surgery. He has treated patients in Baton Rouge for seven years.

Rosenzwieg earned a medical degree from LSU’s School of Medicine located there, followed by a residency in urology at the University of Oklahoma. She has cared for patients in Baton Rouge for three years.

Premier Urology at Baton Rouge General is located in the Center for Health on the Bluebonnet campus, 9001 Summa Ave., Suite 440.
