Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University Hosts HOSA Nursing Summer Camp

Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University is hosting the HOSA Nursing Summer Camp, a unique opportunity for high school students interested in pursuing a career in nursing.

The camp will take place on July 19 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the university campus on Brittany Drive.

This immersive experience will provide participants with hands-on activities, workshops, and insights into the nursing profession, guided by experienced faculty and healthcare professionals. Participants will discuss what nursing is, learning about the different career paths in nursing. They will also learn about HIPAA and codes of ethics, PPE, proper needle selection and needle safety, and assess how to complete one.

“This event presents a valuable opportunity for high school students to explore the nursing profession,” says Carla Harmon, MD, undergraduate nursing director. “Our aim is to familiarize participants with the responsibilities and competencies of registered nurses. I believe this experience will assist them in making an educated choice regarding a career in nursing.”

Participants will also learn how to take vital signs, care for wounds, and be educated in body mechanics. In addition, they will have the opportunity to participate in the state-of-the-art Simulated Education and Teaching Hospital (SETH) lab on campus. Undergraduate and SETH faculty will facilitate each session.
