Everett J. Bonner, Jr., MD, FACS, FSSO, has been chosen as one of 10 physicians in the nation to receive the 2022 Commission on Cancer (CoC) Cancer Liaison Physician Outstanding Performance Award. The award recognizes outstanding performance by a physician in their role as quality leader of their cancer program.
The CoC’s Cancer Liaison Program is a volunteer network that manages clinically related cancer activities in local institutions and communities, and the Cancer Liaison Physician (CLP) serves as an integral member of a program’s cancer committee.
Bonner serves as medical director of Baton Rouge General’s Breast Surgery Program, and also heads the High-Risk Breast Clinic at BRG’s Mid City campus, providing specialized care to women at risk for developing breast disease and who are underinsured or uninsured.
An integral part in achieving National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) accreditation for BRG’s Pennington Cancer Center, Bonner will now also serve as a site reviewer for NAPBC. Accreditation is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.
Bonner holds a fellowship in surgical breast oncology from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He graduated from LSU School of Medicine and completed a surgery residency at Mercer University School of Medicine in Savannah, Ga.
