Central Louisiana Supports and Services Center (CLSSC), a 92-bed Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) intermediate care facility for individuals with intellectual disabilities in Alexandria, has expanded its Complex Rehab Technology (CRT) seating and mobility educational outreach initiative through a new collaboration with Kalogon, a manufacturer of smart seating solutions.
CLSSC provides specialized healthcare, therapeutic, educational, and residential services for medically complex, orthopedic, and neurologically involved children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Many individuals served by CLSSC rely on highly customized seating systems integrated with manual or power wheelchairs to maintain postural support, positively impact their health, protect skin integrity, access daily living activities, and achieve essential mobility within their home, instructional, job training, recreational, and community environments.
CRT wheelchair evaluations at CLSSC involve a comprehensive, multidisciplinary team centered on the individual user. This team may include seating specialists, assistive technology professionals, occupational and physical therapists, suppliers and practitioners, family and caregivers, and medical partners such as respiratory therapists. Together, the team evaluates each person’s unique body, function, and needs to determine the seating and mobility equipment that best supports their medical, functional, postural, and mobility needs.
