The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) has launched the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline — the new three-digit number that replaces the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to make it easier for people to receive assistance during a mental health crisis.

A group of 40 pediatric burn survivors attended Baton Rouge General’s Camp Catahoula recently. The week-long camp, held in Lawrence, Miss., provides summer fun like swimming, fishing, and games along with the chance for burn survivors to share their experiences with other survivors.

First responders are equipped with lifesaving expertise and resources to rapidly arrive on the scene of emergencies resulting in traumatic injuries, but even so, a person who has suffered a trauma and is bleeding can die from blood loss within five minutes if efforts are not made to control it.

Robert Drennan, MD, electrophysiologist at Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS), has used the  Abbott Aveir™ VR Leadless Pacemaker to treat abnormal heart rhythm. The procedure took place in the catheterization laboratory at Baton Rouge General Medical Center on July 15.

The Walls Project received $150,000 in grant funding to address poverty in Baton Rouge. Additionally, the total investment in the city-parish of East Baton Rouge from American Heart Association/Voices for Healthy Kids for this work is $450,000. These funds will support the project’s commitment to dismantling the racial and health inequities people of color and people with low incomes face in the community.
