The U.S. Department of Commerce, via its Economic Development Administration (E.D.A.), announced a significant $4.4 million investment in Louisiana's infrastructure. This allocation is geared towards strengthening the areas recently affected by disasters. A significant portion will be directed to the Baton Rouge Health District, in collaboration with Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome, for vital enhancements.

Louisiana Healthcare Connections, a Medicaid health plan serving Louisiana Department of Health and wholly owned subsidiary of Centene Corporation, is partnering with the Alexandria Housing Authority to host a Holiday Health Care-a-Van on Dec. 9 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Charles Hayward Activity Center (2586 Loblolly Ln. Alexandria, La, 71303). In addition to providing a holiday experience for the community, a group of mobile health units, healthcare providers, and community partners will be providing screenings, vaccinations, and other resources for free.

November is COPD Awareness Month—a time to raise awareness, take action and help make a difference in the lives of people living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The disease, which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema, is long-term, progressive, and makes it hard to breathe.

The Vascular Specialty Center is now part of Baton Rouge General as Baton Rouge General Vascular Associates. The clinic remains located at BRG’s Bluebonnet campus. BRG Vascular Associates is led by  Joseph Griffin, MD, FACS; Victor Q. Tran, MD, FACS; M. Vincent Weaver, MD, FACS; and Mickey Graphia, MD, who is a new addition to the team.  

Naomi Nelson will serve as director of vascular services at Baton Rouge General, responsible for the operations of BRG Vascular Associates.

On Nov. 18, 1968, Woman’s Hospital opened as one of the first specialty hospitals in the nation dedicated to treating the unique healthcare needs of women. Now the largest birthing facility in Louisiana, Woman’s is looking back on 55 years by sharing notable facts and healthcare milestones.

Since 1968, Woman’s has delivered nearly 400,000 babies, with over 7,000 delivered to date this year.
