Pediatric Residents Graduate from OLOL Program

Nine pediatric residents at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center graduated from the hospital’s three-year Pediatric Residency Program on June 9 in Baton Rouge.

“These nine physicians have spent the past three years training and being equipped with the skills and experience necessary to care for the complex healthcare problems facing children,” said Dr. Melissa Roy, Pediatric Residency Program Co-Director. “Our faculty, from across the country, are dedicated to making our children’s hospital the state’s leader in pediatric care and resident education.”

As Our Lady of the Lake continues construction on its new freestanding children’s hospital, it also enhances its ability to retain top pediatric talent from its own residency program, as well as attract more pediatric specialists and subspecialists to the region. The freestanding Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital is slated to open in Summer of 2019.

“Since starting this residency program in 2010, we have had seven pediatricians or pediatric specialists return to practice within our health system, and an eighth one returning this July,” said Dr. Bolton, Pediatric Residency Program Co-Director. “These doctors are invaluable assets and their choice to serve Baton Rouge speaks volumes about the impact of a local residency program on our community.”

The Pediatric Residency Program trains residents at the only children’s hospital and 24/7 pediatric emergency room in the Baton Rouge region.
