Louisiana Healthcare Connections to Sponsor Free Health Clinic in Lake Charles

The City of Lake Charles will offer Operation Healing and Restoration—a free health clinic hosted by Remote Area Medical (RAM) and sponsored by Louisiana Healthcare Connections—at the Lake Charles Civic Center, 900 Lakeshore Drive, from Sept. 15-16.

As many as 1,500 people from across the state are expected to receive free dental, vision, and medical care at the two-day event. No qualifying questions will be asked, and attendees do not need ID or health insurance to receive services.

“Access to quality healthcare is essential if we are to truly battle the root causes of poverty within a community,” said Lake Charles Mayor Nic Hunter. “We believe that this event will have lasting effects throughout our community. It truly is a Herculean effort to put this event on. We hope Operation Healing and Restoration may connect our residents in need to health services and care that may be available to them year-round.”

“Healthy communities are at the core of our mission,” said Louisiana Healthcare Connections Chief Medical Officer Dr. Stewart Gordon. “A dynamic event like Operation Healing and Restoration presents an ideal opportunity for us to partner with community-level organizations to improve the health of Louisiana residents.”

Attendees will be served on a first come, first served basis. Due to time constraints, attendees will be asked to choose between dental and vision care. Services will include dental (cleaning, fillings, extractions, and X-rays), vision (eye exams, eyeglass prescriptions, and eyeglasses—will be made on-site), and medical (women’s health exams and general medical exams).

Patient parking will open at midnight on Sept. 14, and tickets will be handed out beginning at 3 a.m. on Sept. 15. Tickets are required for admission, and attendees will be seen in numerical order based on ticket number. Clinic doors will open at 6 a.m. This process will repeat for the second day of the clinic.
