Free Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Training Offered by LA Healthcare Connections

Recognizing the value of evidence-based treatment, Louisiana Healthcare Connections is offering its in-network Licensed Mental Health Professionals (LMHPs) an opportunity to complete Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) training. This educational package is being offered at no cost to selected eligible applicants on May 1-2, 2019, at Willis Knighton Health Center, 2400 Hospital Drive, in Bossier City, La. The deadline to apply is April 19, 2019. Applications may be completed online at www.LaHealth.cc/tf-cbtcourse.

TF-CBT is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents impacted by trauma that includes the participation of their parents or caregivers. Research shows that TF-CBT successfully resolves a broad array of emotional and behavioral difficulties associated with single, multiple and complex trauma experiences. The training will be led by Roy Van Tassell, MS. LPC, Centene Director of Trauma and Evidence-Based Interventions and an approved national trainer in TF-CBT and CE-CERT models of care. He noted, “Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an efficacious model for child traumatic stress, particularly for children in foster care. We have been proudly bringing TF-CBT training to mental health providers in and beyond our network since 2013 to support their effort in helping children heal from abuse trauma and maltreatment.” Clinicians must meet all eligibility criteria to attend:

• Must be enrolled in, or actively engaged in the credentialing process for, the Louisiana Healthcare Connections provider network;

• Must be actively treating children and adolescents in foster care; and

• Must hold a Master’s degree or above in a mental health discipline and professional licensure in the state of Louisiana, or be a registered intern under supervision.

The live, two-day training is one of the requirements for National Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy certification. To be nationally certified, providers will have to complete all requirements, including the TF-CBT Consultation Call Program, consisting of twice-monthly, one-hour group conference calls for six months. Providers must agree to participate in the Consultation Call Program if accepted for this course. “We are pleased to be able to bring this training to the providers in Louisiana,” said Stewart Gordon, MD, chief medical officer for Louisiana Healthcare Connections. “These services have tremendous clinical value, and by making this evidence-based training available, we are helping to increase access to a high level of quality care for children in our state.”

A limited number of seats are available. Eligible clinicians are encouraged to apply early. The course has been approved for 14.5 clinical contact hours of continuing education credit by the National Association of Social Workers-Louisiana Chapter as authorized by the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners. Selected applicants will be responsible for the cost of travel and lodging to attend the two-day training. More information, pre-training recommendations and requirements, and the registration form can be found at www.LaHealth.cc/tf-cbtcourse.
