In the wake of the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, hospitals throughout the Baton Rouge area have released information regarding increased visitor guidelines and parameters for screening for the coronavirus.
The following information was published on the Our Lady of the Lake Hospital website:
“New criteria includes limiting visitation to one adult visitor per patient per day, and no person who has visited Orleans or Jefferson Parish in the last 14 days will be allowed to enter the facility.
“Updates to the visitor guidelines includes:
1. Visitation of patients will be limited to one visitor (18 years or older) per patient, per day.
2. Visitors must receive a temperature check and answer the following questions:
Do you have any symptoms of a respiratory infection, such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath?
-In the last 14 days, have you had contact with someone with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19, someone under investigation for COVID-19 or are ill with a respiratory illness?
-Do you live in a community where there have been multiple confirmed COVID-19 cases?
-Have you visited Orleans Parish or Jefferson Parish in the past 14 days?
-Have you traveled internationally within the last 14 days to countries with sustained community transmission?
“If the visitor has a fever or answers "yes" to any of these questions, they will not be allowed to enter the facility.
“In addition to these precautions, Our Lady of the Lake will be temporarily discontinuing public attendance at hospital chapel Mass at all of its locations. Daily Mass will continue to be celebrated; however, the Service will instead be made available for patients via the closed circuit television system. Members of the hospital's Pastoral Care team will serve as Eucharistic Ministers for the distribution of communion to patients and team members who request it.”
Woman’s Hospital posted the following on its website:
“We are restricting entry points on campus. Entrance only:
-Use the main entrance to access the hospital.
-Access your physician’s office through the Physician Office Building entrance.
-Breast & GYN Cancer Pavilion patients can enter through the Pavilion entrance.
“We are screening every patient and visitor at Woman’s Hospital for risk of COVID-19 infection in order to protect our community and employees. Every time you leave the hospital you will be required to go back through screening, regardless of the duration of your absence or if it is within the same day.
“We are limiting patients to one support person per day. A support person can be anyone you designate, including a spouse or partner. Support persons will be allowed to stay with patients at all times.”
Cardiovascular Institute of the South published the following information on its website:
“Before coming in for an appointment, please alert us if:
-You are currently experiencing respiratory or flu-like symptoms
-You have been in close contact with someone who has these symptoms
-You have traveled out of the country or been in close contact with someone who has
“If you are experiencing any flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath) and have an appointment to see a CIS physician, please call the clinic in advance of your visit for additional instructions.”
