2020 Health Summit to Create Policy Vision to Advance Health Equity

The Louisiana Center for Health Equity, in collaboration with the Louisiana Department of Health’s Office of Public Health and Pennington Biomedical Research Center, will host the 2020 Health Summit: Advancing Health Equity for Children and Families on March 3. Local, state, and nationally recognized public health and education professionals will lead discussions with the goal of creating a bold policy vision to improve health outcomes and quality of life for Louisiana children and families.

“Despite Medicaid expansion and additional health developments, Louisiana ranks 49th in the national health ranking,” said Alma Stewart, summit organizer and Louisiana Center for Health Equity founder/president. “The summit brings together leaders in the public health and education fields to create a bold policy vision to improve health outcomes and the quality of life for Louisiana children and families. The work being done this year will help Louisiana move up in the national health rankings.”

Speakers at the event will include Gov. John Bel Edwards; Jonathan Goldfinger, MD, MPH, FAAP; Danielle G. Dooley, MD, MPhil, FAAP; Alma C. Stewart, RN, MS, CCHC; and Jennifer Drake-Croft, MSSW, IMH-E®; among others.

The four key objectives will be discussed during the summit include the progress and accomplishments of the current State Health Improvement Plan, key health indicators that will move the needle toward improving Louisiana’s national health ranking, policies to reduce Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), and school health and education best practices to reduce disparities in academic outcomes.
