With the support of Louisiana Healthcare Connections, Southwest Louisiana Primary Care (SWLPHC) in Opelousas, La., has taken an innovative approach to addressing nutrition-related illnesses among its patients and local residents by planting a community garden that will provide fresh produce along with an opportunity to learn more about healthy, nutritional practices.
Sage Outpatient celebrated its 10th anniversary of providing services to individuals in the Greater Baton Rouge Area. Originally located in a 6,000 square foot building on Dijon Drive, near Our Lady of the Lake Reginal Medical Center, and treating 10-20 patients a week, the program has seen significant growth.
Baton Rouge General (BRG) again received an “A” for patient safety from the Leapfrog Group. Only 20 hospitals in Louisiana and two in East Baton Rouge Parish received an “A” rating in the fall report. This is the seventh year in a row for Baton Rouge General to receive an “A” from the Leapfrog Group, more than any other local hospital.
Visit any Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) location on Nov. 15 for the Great American Smokeout, an all-day tobacco cessation event. The theme this year is Tobacco Free LIFE: Get on Board with Commit to Quit. The public is invited to stop by and learn how CIS can support an individual’s “quit game plan” with resources from a free cessation program; and to participate in interactive displays for a chance to win various prizes.
